Sung Sim Dang bakery (성심당) in Daejeon is pretty famous. Why? They sell a variety of breads and pastries. During the Christmas season, they’ll also have italian cakes for sell like Pandoro and Panettone. They also have their own Sung Sim Dang Cake Boutique that specializes in cakes, tarts and other desserts located just around the corner from the bakery.
Earl Grey Tart and Lemon Merengue Tart
The most famous thing about them is their fried red bean bun: 튀김소보로 (fried streusel). If you know anything about east Asian pastries, they are usually filled with red beans (yes, those kidney beans we use in the USA for chili are used in pastries and made sweet!). I am not really a big fan of traditional bean buns but I like the fried ones because the flavors of fried oil and beans compliment each other better.
Considering I live near the bakery, I visit often. I’ll have a craving and just get random things. For example, this image below. With a friend, we prepared a sweet potato fried streusel, bacon, wine, cheese (because you’ve gotta have cheese with wine, right?), Mom’s Touch chicken burgers (USA equivalent would be Popeye’s), and Gimmari (김말이 튀김: Korean Deep Fried Seaweed Spring Rolls because they’re good.). When you have cravings, you just have to satisfy them sometimes. 😀
